Month 3-6: SEO starts kicking in. You begin ranking for keywords. Some organic leads start coming in alongside your paid leads.

Month 6+: SEO is now generating consistent free traffic. You can either keep Google Ads running (more leads) or reduce your ad spend (lower costs). Either way, you win.

This is the approach that actually works for most small businesses. You get the short-term wins from ads and the long-term compounding from SEO.

The mistake most businesses make

They do one or the other and give up too soon.

They run Google Ads for two weeks, decide it's "too expensive," and quit. Or they start SEO, see no results after a month, and pull the plug.
